
Stop Letting Moisture Kill Your Infrared Heaters
Let’s be honest: most heating elements aren’t built for the real world. If you’re working in a spot with heavy steam, constant humidity, or the occasional splash, a standard heater usually burns out in a few weeks. It’s frustrating. The problem is moisture. It doesn’t just cause a quick short circuit; it slowly eats away at the electrical contacts and messes with the reflector, meaning you stop getting the heat you’re paying for.
What IP55 actually does for you
You’ll see “IP55” on the spec sheet, but here is what that actually means in your shop: we’ve sealed the housing so dust and water jets can’t get inside. We use heavy-duty gaskets and sealed cable entries because water loves to find the smallest gap in the wiring. Then there’s the fogging. You know how a lens fogs up and you can’t see a thing? The same thing happens to heaters. When water droplets settle on the surface, they create “cold spots.” Your heat becomes uneven. We designed these to manage heat in a way that keeps the lens and casing clear. No fog, no droplets, just consistent infrared radiation hitting your workpiece exactly where it needs to.
Why it lasts longer
Most heaters die at the terminals. That’s where the water gets in and starts the oxidation process. To stop that, we used corrosion-resistant alloys and sealed junctions. It keeps the internals dry and happy. Because the electronics aren’t constantly fighting a humid environment, they don’t overheat or drop voltage. It can take a beating, and the seals actually hold.
A few things to keep in mind
There is a trade-off, though. Because we added this physical shielding, the heater has a slightly larger footprint than those flimsy open-frame models. You’ll just need to make sure your mounting brackets have a little extra room. Also, since the unit is sealed tight, the chassis doesn’t shed heat as quickly. If you’re squeezing these into a tight enclosure, just double-check your airflow. You don’t want to accidentally bake the components surrounding the heater.
